Expertise and craftsmanship
Based in the beautiful Suffolk countryside near the town of Bury St Edmunds, Allan Ball is an expert joiner and lover of all things made from wood.
To ensure the high standard he strives for, Allan works principally alone, managing every aspect of every job. Allan believes that working with timber is a great privilege and he has a tremendous appreciation for the material he works with every day in his workshop.
For Allan, each knot and growth ring has its own story and point in history, and Allan believes every piece of timber is unique and should be treated as such when using it to design and create inspiring joinery and furniture. Selecting the correct timber for the task in hand, knowing where it originated, how it has been dried along with its moisture content all affect its suitability and durability for each job.
Allan’s love for what he does is evident. Allan employs all his knowledge and the skills for every project he works on and approaches every job with the same pride and passion.
Allan started as an apprentice in a local joinery shop producing purpose made joinery. After qualifying, he moved to a local boat manufacturer where his role was making and fitting the interiors of small day and river cruisers. Building furniture and making the most of the confined spaces on boats Allan was able to use this valuable experience to refine his skills in finishing and spraying.
Allan then moved to another local joinery firm specialising in traditional joinery and bespoke gates before starting AJB Joinery in 2004 where all Allan’s acquired skills are used daily in his workshop.
